R02 Geologists partake in 2015 Geosciences Workshop

Four Geologist of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 02 (MGB R02) headed by the OIC Chief of Geosciences Division (GSD) Felicitas V. Piligan; Senior Geologist Marie Nelle Monteclaro and Contractual Geologists Oliver Hans H. Lapina and Ruvic Anne Villarias participated in the recently held 2015 Geosciences Workshop in Tanza Oasis, Cavite last Feb. 16-20, 2015.

The said workshop was conducted as a venue for the presentation and review of the 2014 accomplishments of each region particularly the Goehazard mapping of 1:10,000 scale map. Also tackled up were financial status and targets of geosciences related activities for the year 2015.

The first two days of the workshop was devoted for the discussion of 2015 programs of the GSD which includes Subsidence Susceptibility Assessment and Mapping, Groundwater Resources and Vulnerability Assessment, Coastal Geohazard Assessment and the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment.

For the succeeding days, it tackled the 2014 accomplishments per region, also discussed were the 2015 target plan and workshop outputs for the different assessments and an estimated budget plan for corresponding assessments.

The workshop for Subsidence Susceptibility Assessment and Mapping was also structured for setting the standardized system in report writing, maps with corresponding legends and methodology while for the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment, the MGB Central Office will provide standard guidelines to be given to Regional Offices.

The workshop was participates in by all the Geologists of MGB Central and Regional Offices. This was an annual activity of the Geosciences Division of MGB.

Last year, they conducted their Geosciences workshop in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

MGB R02 pays tribute to its retiree employee

In a move that shows love and care for its employees, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 02 (MGB R02) spearheaded a retirement program held last January 19, 2015 at MGB R02 Conference Room.

The MGB R02 paid tribute to its newly retired employee who has rendered invaluable service to the Regional Office.

According to MGB Regional Director Mario Ancheta, the program will serve as an inspiration to the other employees to give their best while in the service for this will give legacy as they retire.

Feted for her long service in MGB R02 is Gilda Castillejo, 65, an Administrative Assistant who just retired for serving the government for 36 years.

The MGB staff serenaded and gave speeches and tokens as a sign of remembrance to Ms. Castillejo.

The Regional Director of the Bureau is appreciative of the services rendered by her especially in sharing her skills in cooking particularly her adobo menu.

In her response to her memorable retirement program, she said that she didn’t expect that a surprise program was prepared for her.

She added that she is thankful to the MGB family especially to RD Ancheta who unselfishly shared with her the blessings he has in life.

MGB R02 participates in 61st annual mining confab

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan - At least one thousand individuals involved in the mining industry which includes some employees of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 02 ( MGB R02) attended the 61st Annual National Mine Safety and Environmental Conference organized by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) held in Baguio City on November 11-14, 2014.

Bearing the theme: “61 years of Responsible Mining and Nation Building,” the mining conference kicked off with a tree planting at the PMSEA adopted park at the Botanical Garden led by PMSEA President Louie Sarmiento, Philippine Society of Mining Engineers (PSEM) Chairman and President Felizardo Gacad and PSEM Northern Luzon Chapter President and OIC Regional Director of MGB R02 Mario Ancheta.

 The Mining Exhibit was opened last November 12, 2014 with a ribbon cutting led by Engr. Sarmiento at the CAP-John Hay Convention Center Garden Wing at 8:30 in the morning.

After the opening of the Mining Exhibit, 2nd Community Relations (COMREL) Conference at the Main Hall followed and participated in by PMSEA and PSEM officials, heads and representatives of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), MGB and representatives of the different mining companies in the country.

Meanwhile, the Mineral Industry Symposium was also held at the CAP-John Hay Convention Center on the following day with Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan as the guest speaker.

One of the highlights of the said event is the Mineral Industry Parade where the delegates filled the Bagiuo City’s main thoroughfares at 7:00 in the morning with the Mineral Industry Parade from Session Road to Burnham Park where the Mine Safety Field Demonstration and Field Competitions were conducted.

The event was closed with a Testimonial Dinner and Annual Awards Night at CAP- John Hay Convention Center where mining companies were awarded for their best practices in the mining industry.

Philex Mining Corporation Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan served as the guest speaker during the awards night.

MGB region 2 throws birthday tribute to its personnel

In a simple program during the Monday’s convocation, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 2 (MGB R02) thru its Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees Association (MGBEA) gave a birthday tribute to its October birthday celebrants held on October 27, 2014.

The birthday tribute was regarded as MGBEA’s way in thanking its employees for their commitment and dedication to public service.

The MGBEA headed by Edwin Buendia gave a birthday cake and a P 1,000 cash gift to six birthday celebrants during the simple get together.

The birthday celebrants were Lani Cardenas, Administrative Officer III and Glorieta Cabalza, Administrative Officer III from Finance and Administrative Division (FAD); Vicie Diciano, Engineer II from Mine and Management Division (MMD), Marie Nelle Monteclaro, Senior Geologist from Geosciences Division; Engr. Romeo Cortan and Engr. Demetrio Corsino from Mining Environment and Safety Division (MESD).

After the convocation, a simple lunch buffet was served as a gathering and socializing of all MGB R02 employees.

The MGBEA is very much grateful to its personnel for their contribution in the objectives of the agency.

MGB R02 supports Climate Change symposium

TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN, (MGB)- Two thousand students and stakeholders participated in the climate change campus tour cum symposium held last October 9, 2014 at the Ref Eagle Gymnasium of Cagayan State University Carig Campus.

This symposium is a component of climate change advocacy campaign of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 2 (DENR R02) in cooperation with Philippine Information Agency Region 2 (PIA R02).

Forester Dionicio Deundo of DENR R02 tackled the environmental protection to include the National Greening Program while Romeo Fragata of Environment and Management Bureau Region 02(EMR R02) discussed the ecological solid waste management.

Moreover, the Senior Geologist of Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 02 (MGB R02), Ms. Marie Nelle Monteclaro discussed the flood vulnerability of Tuguegarao City, Alcala and Enrile, Cagayan. On the other hand, Mr. Romel Gamiao of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 2 (DSWD R02) also presented the region’s disaster risk reduction and management specifically on pre-emptive evacuation.

Monteclaro said that the symposium aims to discuss the causes and appropriate mitigating measures of climate change.

“The activity gave emphasis on the significant roles of the youths towards climate change concerns,” Monteclaro added.

The Senior Geologist further said that the activity aims to promote public awareness on the effects of climate change in our day to day life.
