MGB 2 gives geohazard, disaster management lecture in Baggao

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II hand-in-hand with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Office No. II Gender and Development Focal Point System recently conducted a community outreach program in San Jose, Baggao, Cagayan.
The outreach program aims to build resilient communities prone to disasters and hazards. As part of promoting gender equality and empowerment of women, the event included lectures and presentations on mining and environment-related programs.
 
MGB ROII Geosciences Chief Felicitas V. Piligan, C/Geologist Aina Claravall, and Science Research Specialist Rea Mae Leslie Mejares explained Geohazard Mapping and Role of Women in Disaster Management, Landslide Mass Movement, and Flooding and Karst Subsidence, respectively.
DENR ROII Youth Desk Officer Ralfee Concepcion discussed the Pinas Basura Buster Campaign of the Department. He introduced the PBB mascot as the image of DENR in its solid waste management advocacy campaign to raise awareness and behavioral change on proper waste management and disposal.
 
The event was participated in by 120 participants from the 48 barangays composed of local officials, Sangguniang Kabataan Members, and residents.
The municipality of Baggao is vulnerable to typhoons, landslides, and other natural disasters. As a climate-vulnerable area directly hit during previous typhoons, the environment and local government officials collaborated to empower individuals, families and organizations living in the community to raise awareness and preparedness. - with reports from DENR ROII
