Mines Bureau holds orientation on revised monitoring checklist to permit holders

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II recently conducted an orientation-workshop on MC No. 2018-02, otherwise known as Guidelines for Compliance and Rating/Scorecard of Mining Permit/Contracts on Industrial Sand and Gravel (ISAG) and Mineral Processing Permit Holders (MPP) held at MGB ROII Multi-Purpose Hall.

The activity was participated in by ISAG and MPP holders.  This aimed to ensure an effective monitoring of tenements, safety and health, environmental management, and social development (T-SHES) requirements using the revised checklist and scorecard for the compliance of the mining companies.

Engr. Robert B. Carreon gave a brief talk on tenement monitoring checklist while Engr. Florentino C. Bangisan Jr. lectured on safety and health monitoring checklist, Engr. Patrisha P. Torcedo, on the other hand, talked about environmental monitoring checklist, and Demetrio B. Corsino on social development monitoring checklist.

Engr. Geoffrey V. Prado, Officer-In Charge of the Mine Management Division (MMD) in his message said, “We need to work hand-in hand to efficiently regulate the mining industry.”

“We are here to help and not to give burden on your operations. Our policies will guide you on sound implementation of your work programs,” he said.

After a series of lecture, a workshop on filling-up the monitoring scorecard was conducted by the participants. The workshop was facilitated in by Supervising Science Research Specialist Emely M. Delmendo. Lyndee Rose S. Basilio

VRA in Jones, Isabela conducted

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II recently conducted a vulnerability and risk assessment in Jones, Isabela.

All the 42 barangays were assessed,namely :  Abulan, Addalam, Arubub, Bannawag, Bantay, Barangay I (Pob.), Barangay II (Pob.), Barangcuag, Dalibubon, Daligan, Diarao, Dibuluan, Dicamay I, Dicamay II, Dipangit, Disimpit, Divinan, Dumawing, Fugu, Lacab, Linamanan, Linomot, Malannit, Minuri, Namnama, Napaliong, Palagao, Papan Este, Papan Weste, Payac, Pongpongan, San Antonio, San Isidro, San Jose, San Roque, San Sebastian, San Vicente, Santa Isabel, Santo Domingo, Tupax, Usol , and Villa Bello.

The VRA was initiated on 2015 to support the National Geohazard Assessment and Mapping Program (NGAMP).

Prior to the implementation of the VRAP, the DENR-MGB, along with other outsourced companies, have conducted and completed the National Geohazard Assessment and Mapping Program both in 1:50,000 scale on 2010 and in a more-detailed 1:10,000 scale on 2014 which aim to identify areas susceptible to geological hazards, specifically landslide and flood. Basically, the objective of the risk assessment is to identify the exposure of the elements at risk to its Geohazard susceptibility rating – low, moderate and high to very high, which will be shown in the maps to be generated.

#MineResponsibility campaign launch

 

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau recently launched its Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign dubbed as #MineResponsibility held at Elements Eton Centris, Quezon City.

The #MineResponsibility is part of the intensive IEC drive of the Bureau to enlighten the public on responsible mining and to inform them about the benefits of mining in the society.

Further, the IEC also aims to address all misconceptions about the mining industry and to give a more factual and accurate image of mining in the country.

The campaign also launched the Kutsara Infomercial, Minsan Kitang Minahan online advertisement, and the Biyaya ng Lupa Documenntary.

The project is the brainchild of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu, and DENR Undersecretary for Climate Change and Mining Concerns Atty. Analiza Rubuelta- Teh.

MGB Director Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano also said that the IEC campaign is the inclusive approach of the Bureau in ensuring the commitment of the mining industry in the protection of the people and the environment alongside its economic and social progress.

“It is important that the public is informed and involved in the enforcement of mining policies and environmental protection, and that is what this campaign is really about,” Moncano exhorted.

Meanwhile, Teh added that the campaign goes beyond just information and education. “ We’ve been working on improving the mining industry since the start of the Duterte Administration,” the undersecretary said.

“We take the issues on mining very seriously,” Teh emphasized.

Mines Bureau sends off retiree employee

Feted for her long service in the government, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 02 (MGB R02) spearheaded a retirement program for Budget Officer Remigia Manuel held last March 25, 2019.

The Bureau paid tribute to its newly retired employee who has rendered invaluable service to the Finance and Administrative Division through inspirational messages, token and plaque, and serenading the retiree.

Mines Bureau spearheads info drive on mineral reservation

 

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan- Mines and Geosciences Bureau ROII recently conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) relative to the proposed Mineral Reservation within Nueva Vizcaya province in identified potential areas located in Alfonso Castaneda and Dupax Del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya.

The IEC was conducted by a team of geologists from the regional office. The topics tackled MGB mandates, mineral reservation program to include the identificationof area to be declared as a mineral reservation area.
