“Welcome and thank you for visiting Region II, and for conducting training and assessment like this to capacitate our Geologists,” RD Mario Ancheta said during his welcome message to MGB CO Technical Staff.

“In return, we will try to lessen your workload soon as we operate Geological laboratory here in

 region II,” RD Ancheta added.

Ma. Lourdes Stephanie Leido, Senior Geologist; Irina Diane Castanos, Science Research Specialist II; and Chechen Tan, Geologist spearheaded series of lecture and hands-on training to MGB ROII Geosciences Division Personnel.

The two-day activity tackled lectures on Petrography, Water Sampling Techniques, and Paleontology as a refresher to the geologists. Basic sedimentology training was also given to the participants of the training.

An assessment of the newly constructed laboratory building in the MGB R2 office was likewise performed by the MGB CO Technical Staff.

According to Leido, MGB ROII is now ready for acquiring laboratory instruments as the building is already constructed.

Further, MGB ROII geologists were also tasked to analyze and identify rocks megascopic and microscopic in order to familiarize with common textures and appearance of minerals under microscope, since the equipment was newly acquired by the office.

The activity concluded with a discussion regarding the deliverables and materials needed to further the establishment of the said laboratory.- with reports from Ezekiel James Gal
